AHA joins coalition to promote COVID-19 safety, health insurance enrollment

In a push to compel more Americans to seek health insurance coverage and protect themselves from COVID-19, the AHA, American Medical Association, American Public Health Association and a host of other organizations, elected leaders, states, individual hospitals and doctors today announced Get Covered 2021.

“Sixteen million Americans are eligible for coverage today,” said co-chair Peter Lee, also executive director of Covered California. “Most Americans think they can’t afford health insurance, but with financial help they can.”

In addition to health insurance, he said, “getting covered is about wearing a mask.”

The coalition said disparities, including race, have exacerbated the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects, resulting in roughly 525,000 uninsured Americans diagnosed with the coronavirus.
