AHA urges OMB to release final rules on physician self-referral and AKS

The AHA today urged the Office of Management and Budget to expedite its review and release of final regulations on physician self-referral and the Anti-Kickback Statute that were submitted in July by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General.

In the association’s letter, AHA wrote that the rules “will remove unnecessary regulatory burden from hospitals and health systems, allow for enhanced care coordination for patients, improve quality, and reduce waste in the Medicare and Medicaid programs” and “take on even more significance in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
