Court approves Sutter Health antitrust settlement

A California state judge yesterday granted preliminary approval to a settlement agreement in antitrust litigation alleging Sutter Health used anticompetitive practices in its contracts with a union’s health plans.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union reached the $575 million settlement with Sutter Heath in December 2019.

“Today’s ruling enables the settlement approval process to continue moving toward final approval, which will ultimately help preserve our integrated network of care and is in the best interests of our patients and the communities we serve,” Sutter Health said in a statement.
