NASEM sets baseline for success of substance use grant programs

The National Academies of Sciences Engineering, and Medicine yesterday released recommendations for improving outcomes and metrics associated with four grant programs funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to help reduce opioid-related harm and promote recovery from substance use disorder.

NASEM researchers suggest tools and metrics that, if implemented, could reduce overdose rates, increase access to and engagement in treatment and reduce individual and societal suffering stemming from opioid use disorder.
